Since 2010, the World Climate Summit has created a space for non-state actors and government leaders to meet. It has brought together business, finance, and government leaders to accelerate solutions for our climate. In partnership with Sustainia, a Scandinavian sustainability think tank, 2015’s Summit offered an unparalleled international solutions platform for those leaders to promote and reach a wider audience through media and social networks.

“Now in its 6th year, World Climate Summit 2015 showcases innovation and initiatives of businesses, financiers, and governments in solving climate change,” said Jens Nielsen, CEO of World Climate Ltd. “As a global climate stakeholder platform, we are ready to be play a significant role at the upcoming climate change conference by being a solid part of the solutions agenda.”

Because of the busy nature of COP21, the 6th World Climate Summit was strategically scheduled on December 6, mid-way through the two week–long event. This ensured that the Summit could provide:

  • INFLUENCE – the involvement of the most relevant business, finance, and government leaders
  • LEADERSHIP – an exclusive forum for CEO and leaders only and world-class speakers
  • IMPACT – global media and social media attention to build the best outreach platform

History and Context

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the French government are working towards securing a legally binding global climate agreement to curb carbon emissions in the upcomingConference of the Parties (COP21) climate change conference on December 2015 in Paris.

Since 2010, World Climate Summit (WCS) has been the original global business, finance, and government leaders forum in parallel to the annual United Nations Climate Change COP. It aims to support the host government and the UN in delivering tangible and actionable business and finance solutions to the climate negotiations.

In 2014, during COP20, WCS was proudly nominated by the Peru government as part of their Lima Climate Action Initiative. World Climate Summit aims to work with Non-State Actors, leaders, the UN, and the French government to create an impactful solutions–led event for COP21.
